
Hanks' next role was that of astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks with Ron Howard. Many critics praised the film and the performance of the entire ensemble, which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film also received nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Later in the year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. In the same year, he made his directorial debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The story tells of the downfall and the rise of a rock group. Hanks also plays the role of music producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine said that his performance was "charming", and most critics agreed that Hanks role in the film earned him a place in the top romantic comedy stars of his time.
